Topic: Thai Government’s Policy Response to Covid-19 and success of health policy
The focus is on policy classification and combination of factors that explain why Thailand is one of the top countries that has successfully contain the pandemic.
Outline:
-A brief description of Timelines of Covid-19 and government response
-Classification of government policies: classification criteria (or objectives)
-How did Thailand contain Covid-19? A qualitative assessment of efficacy of health measures
-Towards a conceptual explanation of successful Thai health policy and institution
The second session

Topic: Economic/ Social impact of Covid-19 pandemic and Health Policy on Thai economy and Agriculture
The focus is twofold, 1) analyzing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and health policy (especially the partial lockdown & movement restriction) on the economy, with an emphasis on agriculture, 2) assessing the economic & social policy to minimize the short term impacts on affected agricultural households and their members who work in non-agricultural sector and become unemployed or affected by Covid-19.
Note that the training session will not yet be able to qualitatively evaluate the relative importance of different groups of policies because most policies have been only recently implemented or not yet launched.
Modality of training
The session will be 90 minutes.
- a) We’ll start with a 10 minutes introduction of the session by either Dave or Suresh, and Nipon (the policy issues in Thailand).
- b) The presentation will be divided into two (or at most three) sub-sessions. After the ppt presentation, there’ll be a short Q&A and clarifications.
– If there are 2 sub-sessions, each session will last 35 minutes.
– If there are 3 sub-sessions, each session will last 23 minutes.
c) After the end of presentation, there will be another 10 minutes for a general discussion.
