Structural Challenges for the Thai Economy: What Are the Causes of Thailand’s Long-Term GDP Projection Decline?
Dr.Nonarit Bisonyabut, Sunan Phumkham
Thailand’s post-COVID-19 recovery has remained weak, with average growth of only 2.3% during 2022–2024—well below its historical performance. This slowdown is not merely cyclical, but reflects deep-rooted structural challenges that continue to erode the country’s long-term growth potential.
The article highlights that Thailand’s economic engine is constrained across multiple dimensions—from labor and productivity to investment, fiscal space, and external competitiveness. These challenges are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, requiring comprehensive and coordinated policy responses rather than isolated fixes.
Streets for People: How Street and Crosswalk Design and Upkeep Shape Pedestrian Safety
Dr.Sumet Ongkittikul, Natcha O-charoen, Jitlakha Sukruay, Chaiyaporn Chumbunchu, Suphawit Santadkarn
Thailand continues to face one of the highest road fatality rates globally, with pedestrians among the most vulnerable often even at designated crosswalks. This article examines how street and crosswalk design, alongside maintenance and enforcement, directly shape pedestrian safety outcomes.
Drawing on international frameworks such as the Safe System approach, the analysis shows that many crossings in Thailand fall short in visibility, speed management, and conflict reduction. Improving safety therefore requires not only better infrastructure design, but also stronger governance, consistent standards, and a shift toward people-centered street planning.
